We are currently seeking to fill several positions for the 2013 touring season.
Share your enthusiasm for history and preservation by leading walking tours of famed cemetery for tour groups. All positions will have paid training which will include a basic history of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, which is the final resting place for many famous and infamous local residents and impressive works of art. You will also be instructed on how to communicate this information to visitors and will expected to do independent research subsequent to your training. All candidates must have a strong team spirit, enjoy working closely with the public, and be respectful and comfortable working in an active cemetery.
All positions require that the candidate have open evening and/or weekend availability during the month of October, regular cell phone and internet access, a working understanding of MS Office, social media and Google Calendar as well as reliable transportation. Public Programs Docent – 2 positions open
Reports to: the Administrator of Programs, Tours and Visitor Services.
Duties: The Public Program Docent will be responsible for all aspects of the tour presentation and the successful candidate must be able to retain historical facts, dates and anecdotes, and then relay that information to visitors in an entertaining, factual and informative way. Depending upon need, the Public Programs Docent may be asked to participate in basic marketing activities, school and scouting programs and public events.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma plus 2 years direct work experience for a museum or educational institution working directly with the public. Candidates must have reliable transportation, internet access and be able to commit to a regular schedule during the season. Evening availability is mandatory in the month of October. Candidates must submit a resume and cover letter and provide two school or work references. Paid training will be provided, however, the candidate must pass an audition prior to September 13, 2013 prior to being put on the tour schedule. A shift differential will be paid for multilingual tours.
